There are a plethora of books about getting through pregnancy, workout DVDs for pre-and-post, plus a swirl of opinionated debate around work/life balance for mothers. But what no one is really addressing is the crucial space in between. How do women physically AND emotionally adjust to their new sense of self right after becoming mothers? What do you do in that first year? Thank goodness for this Mummylicious book!

I'm a new, first-time mother who had a child in my late 30s. I'd been married to my best friend for 15 over years, was in the best shape of my life, with a successful global career - and figured there was no challenge I couldn't take on with a foundation like that. Wrong! While she is the joy and love of our lives, our daughter completely shook up my world and my self-confidence. My hormones and body were doing things that I never thought it would, both my husband and my daughter needed me more than ever, and just dressing myself up without looking like a complete disaster was a challenge.

This handbook is written from a candid, compassionate and intimate perspective, and really helped me get a grip on not only my body - but my life again. It's true, in order to give my best to my family and the world around me, I needed to be at my best. Written by a mother of four, this book gives real world, motivational, step-by-step advice on how to do just that. With laugh-out-loud moments and brilliant illustrations, it's never preachy or know-it-all. It's like having your best girlfriend go through post-partum challenges 4 different times just to make sure she'd gone through everything possible, so that she could help you out when it was your turn and you needed it the most. I feel badly for the mothers before me who didn't have the benefit of this wonderful book, and am grateful for all the knowledge and support it gave me at a critical time in my life.

motivational!

This book made me laugh and motivated me! I identified with so many things the author was referring to and decided to try all her tips to finally change my body. I made a contract with myself (included in the book) which was surprisingly helpful to keep me on track. There are lots of great recipes, exercise ideas, and plain truths that'll make you feel like you're not alone. I loved this book-it's so compact you can take it anywhere with you! If you just want to fit back into your old jeans again and feel good about yourself, this book's for you.

A Celebration of Motherhood and Being a Woman

The Smart Girl's Handbook to Being Mummylicious is a refreshing and delightful read. Christine Amour-Levar writes honestly, intelligently and humourously about a subject that can be quite a sensitive one for mothers.

As a new (and older) mother in her late thirties, Amour-Levar's candid "chats" about everything post pregnancy were so valuable to me as I was sincerely worried that I may not get back into my pre-pregnancy shape ever again. I absorbed each chapter she wrote, session by session during my midnight and early morning pumping, and sometimes could not put the book down from laughter or keen interest in the facts she shared. I decided to get working on "getting my groove back" right away thanks to her experience and even tried out some of her delicious home recipes to add more variety to our meals.

Needless to say, I am gratefully back in shape 7 months later, after following her advice and feel a greater sense of self as a mother, a wife and more so as a woman. Thank you so much, Christine Amour-Levar, for this wonderful and witty contribution to motherhood and for celebrating being a woman! I look forward to your next book!
