Another Great Book!

Loved this book! I love how the author has two people find each other and they are very different but yet are meant to be. The saying opposites attract is very true in these books and I think that is what makes them so interesting to me. Each one that finds each other helps the other one with their faults by lifting them up and making them realize they are loveable no matter how they look. Looks are not everything and in these books that is so true.
Kal and Sal are different in so many ways. Kal is the dominate one and Sal is the submissive but both want to please the other one any way possible so that they both are happy. The author gets your attention with the main characters and then slips in some other trouble that has to do with Kal and Sal but they are not the only ones involved. Angelique Voisen's books keep me guessing up until the very end and that's why I keep reading them. There is love and problems throughout the entire story but you just are not sure how it's going to end.
I will keep reading Angelique's books because I just can't get enough of her writing about these fantastic wolves shifters. The wolves of New Haven is one series I just want to keep reading.

Ketogenic Wolf is the seventh book in the New Haven Wolves series by author Angelique Voisen. I felt this book is a good stand alone plus a great addition if you are a follower of the series. I love how Ms. Voisen gave us a really great back story for Kal. I really wanted him to find family, and love. He really deserves it. He is ruthless, kind, loving, and is the man you want as your friend. He loves his brothers and when he gives his heart he does it with all that he is. True Alpha hero type.
Sal now he did not have such a great build up. When we meet him he is in a meeting to lose some weight. His insecurities make him question weather or not he should be with Kal. For as hard as he makes Kal work to be with him, Sal really is just scared of risking his own heart to love. At the end he did come around and finally be the mate I really wanted for Kal.
I wished this book was longer mostly because I adored it that much. But for a short story this is a great glimpse into the life of the New Haven Wolf pack. I hope to see many more in the future.

Useful Forecasting Text

I first became acquainted with this text as a student of Dr. Djuric's during the early 1990s. Shortly thereafter, the very useful note set was published as a hardcover book. As a meteorologist, I can tell you there are few texts that combine so much practical information along side the science/math to back it up. Unlike other texts which may provide similar information, this is written at a simpler level. Anyone interested in weather forecasting can learn from this book...

About the Author
Born in Switzerland, Francis King spent his childhood in India, where his father was a government official. While still an undergraduate at Oxford he published his first three novels. He then joined the British Council, working in Italy, Greece, Egypt, Finland and Japan, before he resigned to devote himself entirely to writing. For some years he was drama critic for the Sunday Telegraph and he reviewed fiction regularly for the Spectator. He won the Somerset Maugham Prize, the Katherine Mansfield Prize and the Yorkshire Post Novel of the Year Award for Act of Darkness (1983). His penultimate book, The Nick of Time, was long-listed for the 2003 Man Booker Prize. Francis King died in 2011.

"The Gathering Darkness"

In his second novel, Never Again (1947; with an Introduction by Robert Khan in the 2013 Valancourt Books re-issue) prolific British author Francis King (1923-2011) deftly explores childhood loneliness, innocence, and the inevitable steps toward growing up. His main character, Hugh Craddock, appears to have a perfect life living with his parents in India during the British occupation of that country. An only child, Hugh is "spoiled," precocious, used to getting his way, and waited on by servants especially Luchmann whom Hugh adores even though the relationship has a unique "Master and servant" aspect with "an unquestioning assumption of authority." Hugh, however, also tends to get "nervous" and "worried" and has no one his own age with whom to play. He is also mystified by the adult world around him "from which he was excluded... Pain, death, and hatred were things spoken of but barely understood." With growing unrest and violence in India aimed at the British, Hugh's life undergoes a radical, altering change.

In his Introduction to Never Again, Robert Khan writes that Hugh, "the young protagonist of the novel, is based in so many ways on the Francis [King] of his youth. The novel evokes Francis' boyhood, which is closely paralleled by that of Hugh... In this autobiographical light, the entire novel mirrors the start of a long quest for human companionship and mutual support."

King places Hugh through one ordeal after another as the ten-year-old leaves the tranquility of his parents' home. Time and again he is placed under the guardianship of adults who have and show little genuine care or concern for the boy be it on a long ocean voyage to England with a friend of his mother's who is obviously carrying on an illicit affair (something Hugh really doesn't understand) or staying with relatives in England who resent the boy's presence and have no concept of how to deal with a youth or any desire to try to learn.

During Hugh's "quest for human companionship and mutual support" he is thwarted in his efforts to form a number of friendships. Aboard the ship that takes him to England it is a friendship with an Italian steward. At his aunt and uncle's home it is the cook with whom he is not allowed to associate and a somewhat older girl at a nearby farm is declared off-limits and "unsuitable." His aunt explains to Hugh, "In India you don't mix with the natives: in England you don't mix with--well--with the lower classes. That's not snobbishness; it's just sense." All of these potential relationships are abruptly ended because of class--something totally beyond Hugh's control (and usually his understanding).

School proves to be equally disappointing for Hugh where "he had hoped for something--a warmth or an intimacy, he did not know what--and he had not found it. As at the relatives, he felt there was a lack; but he was unable to define it..." Ironically, when he does make a friend at Frimley Towers, Brian Chorley, it is with a boy from a higher class than Hugh's own. Chorley is picked on because his mother is Jewish. The boys' "form-master," Mr. Burdock, humiliates the two boys "more than any other of his pupils" and "his malice sprang from an inherent knowledge that they [Hugh and Brian] were in every way superior to him--in birth and breeding, morally and intellectually." It is also Burdock who, without cause, finds something "unhealthy, morbid, nauseating, namby-pamby" about the boys' friendship.

The segregation of the British classes is often a focus one finds in King's writing. He doesn't dwell on the topic, he doesn't pontificate, but he is quick to point out the harmful effects of class warfare. At times Hugh's only distraction from the cold reality he encounters in England is to escape in his dreams--much like many of the young protagonists of Forrest Reid's fiction (e.g. Tom Barber).

Throughout Never Again there is a spirit of melancholy that is ever present. Much of it may be related to Hugh's unhappiness, but it appears to be an even greater consequence of the fact that he is slowly leaving childhood behind him and that he is maturing. Never Again is an amazing novel. The descriptions of India, England, and Switzerland are vivid; the characters are real, their feelings and the tone that King evokes on every page is true to life and without unwarranted sentiment. Never Again is yet another minor masterpiece from this too often neglected writer that deserves the attention of many, many readers.

Fast and fun.

Imagine a sixteen year old girl who has a split personality. Raised by her dad after her mom died of cancer when she was three, Katie got started at age four when her father first ran for political office. She's been eyeball deep in every campaign since and now he's running for president. Her split manifests itself thusly: She is a whiz when it comes to politics and campaign strategy, but she's beyond clueless when it comes to acting like a teen. She has no friends at her private school, has never been kissed, or out on a date and can't understand how to make or be a friend.
Drew, also seventeen, is the son of the female democratic presidential candidate. He grew up poor until his father invented an electronic device that made billions. However, he still chooses to go to a public high school on the bus and maintains his friendship with Sandy, a mixed race boy from his old neighborhood. He wants nothing to do with the political hoopla, but when a TV station picks up on the possible human interest angle of both candidates having teens the same age and invites Katie and Drew to appear, she does and he doesn't, leading her to call him a wimp on live TV.
Drew may have thick skin, but when everyone at his school starts repeating her derisive comment, he gets angry and calls the station, asking to come on the show and for Katie to be there. When they meet face to face, the initial hostility starts to diminish, replaced by heaven forbid! Attraction. Right after the interview, Katie and her secret service person rescue Drew from some a pair of very eager girls who watched the show on an outside screen. When he takes her to the beach, she begins to suspect that maybe her life isn't as great as she's been telling herself.
What happens after that is fun and has a few surprises. The story does require a bit of suspension-of-belief. Even so, this is a fast, fun read, particularly for teens who like improbable romances with a fairly clueless heroine.

I loved this book (and this series)

I loved this book (and this series). I really liked the political aspect of the book and the family drama. I felt bad as both teens had their lives changed by their parents. They had to act perfectly, especially in public - which also led to social media outlets.

I really liked Katie - she was sheltered, bossy, and a know-it-all. I loved watching her experience things and break out of her shell. She bought new clothes to hang out in, but wanted to pretend they weren't new. She learned about life from movies. I loved the moments where Drew and Katie hung out while he worked on his car. Plus the time they spent working on their costumes for the dance was fantastic.

A charming romance with a political spin with great banter. Make sure you grab this one.

Sweet Story About First Love

This book is set up perfectly to come out in the middle of a very political year for the U.S.. It's so easy to imagine this book actually happening right now.

Katie is red. Republican all the way and in full support of her father's run for president of the United States. Drew is the son of the Democratic nominee for president. And while he isn't into politics like Katie is, he still finds himself in the middle of all kinds of media attention.

These characters felt really young to me. Maybe even younger than the 16 years they were supposed to be. Katie is socially awkward and a bit naive when it comes to making friends and talking to boys but she is also endearing. Katie and Drew form a new kind of friendship that takes some navigation because they are on opposing sides of a very big election.

I liked that Katie and Drew developed more of a friendship than a romantic connection. It seemed very appropriate for two sixteen year olds. Even when the storm of misunderstanding came, it still felt very on point for the age.

This was a sweet story of a boy and a girl and first love.

I have looked through the entire course and it looks to be fantastic. I'm not there yet; I purchased it early so that I had everything I needed before starting my first lesson. It's just a habit of mine. My kids are waiting for my first concert.... which will be private LOL! Thank you so much for writing a course that us older individuals can complete without having to find a person, arrange schedules, etc. This is sooooo much better :)
