Amazing dream understanding and journeying

This dictionary has helped me to dream amazing journeys, and then to understand some of the symbols therein. I recommend this to anyone and everyone who wants to make changes in their lives. This book is truly miraculous. Everything we need to know comes through our dreams if we could only understand them. Lead them, instead of being totally bewildered and confused all the time.

Comprehensive and Enlightening

I've read many dream interpretation books, most of which are one meaning fits all . . . but it doesn't. The Source Code allows the reader to get a full understanding of their dream by teaching how to interpret those signs and symbols that you get based on YOUR life. It allows one to dig deep and truly get to the bottom of the dream, sign or symbol. I used it to find out why I am consistently getting migraines, and have all my life. I was very impressed by my findings as I had never thought in the way the interpretation teaches us to think. It was spot on. Recommend highly!

An excellent introduction to practical confocal microscopy

This book provides a very "user-friendly" guide to beginners in the field of confocal microscopy. As introduction the author reviews in a compact and accesible manner basic issues of microscopy (including optics, the limits of microscopy, imaging modes and the parts of a microscope) and microscopy hardware always pointing out the advantages and drawbacks inherent to confocal microscopy. The main section of the book describes how to use a confocal microscope in detail, from collecting images to image presentation and publication, dealing along the way with topics such as interpretation of images, understanding fluorescence and fluorescent probes, specialized confocal microscopy techniques and live cell imaging. Appendices discuss further information that can be accessed through further reading or microscopy resources in the internet, as well as a succint evaluation of all commercial confocal microscopy brands currently available, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

The book has been written with a thorough care to produce an enjoyable and didactic text, containing many hints and "how to" procedures that have been personally very helpful to me when I started working with this technique, being completely novel to ANY class of microscopy.

The wealth of information available in its pages make it a good reference book on the subject. Indeed, we have adopted it in my laboratory as the standard for our confocal applications.

Very superficial

This book was recommended to me by the folks at the microscopy core in my university. I was hoping for an accessible technical primer on confocal microscopes with emphasis on the hardware and the underlying optical theory. Unfortunately, although there is an introduction to the hardware and a little bit of optics theory, these sections are very superficial and don't really add to your understanding of the technology (you'll be better off reading the the documentation on the manufacturer's websites, especially nikonU). The aim of this book seems to be to make sure you know what buttons to push when you are in front of the microscope, but not necessarily for you to understand what is that you are doing. The book is not bad. I would trade the section on software (that seems dated) for a good introduction to confocal optics and a more complete guide on how to make sure the hardware is optimally set up (key to get good images) which is also lacking.

A mountain of valuable information!

Physical Methods in Bioinorganic Chemistry is an excellent, useful tool for the begining student interested in the spectrroscopy of biologically related inorganic complexes. Each chapter focuses on spectroscopic techniques not usually taught in graduated level classes, but that are used often in the liturature. Topics include resonance raman, x-ray absorption, NMR, ENDOR, EPR, CD & MCD and many more. The chapters provide the physical basis for the technique at a level that is intelligent, but not too advanced to understand by the begining student. Case studies provide a useful guide to elaborate the real life applications of these useful techniques. This is an awesome book that describes in detail the spectroscopy you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask!

Grade 3-6-Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan (Scholastic, pap. 1986) is an exciting, suspenseful tale of Norwegian children and their contributions to protecting their town's gold during the German occupation in 1940. Convinced that the Germans will try to steal their town's considerable wealth of gold bouillon from the banks, the townsmen decide that it must be removed. Since a group of adults can't remove the gold without the Germans finding out, the townsmen develop a daring plan involving the children. In teams, the children will carry the bouillon on their sleds down to the river where one of the townsmen will load them onto his ship to take to the United States. Various problems arise as the children begin to carry out this plan, but they are resolved. Narrator John McDonough's use of drama and suspense keeps the story moving along. This audiobook would be an excellent supplement to history lessons on World War II. It lends itself well to group or individual listening. Teacher guidance would be helpful in supplying background history.

Parents: This is an excellent choice for your kids

I first read this book in 1968. I was completely absorbed by the story. As a nine year old boy, reading books was not my first priority, but the adventure of the story grabbed my attention and I had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from the book for dinner and bedtime. In later years I reread SNOW TREASURE and found it to be extremely well written, with solid character development. The nicest surprise for parents is that this is a true story from the years leading up to WW-II. I strongly recommend this one for your kids, even those who don't like to read.

Dan Silber is a game developer who has been credited for Pixel Art on dozens of games with licenses, including Marvel, Nickelodeon, Pixar, and Disney. His work has appeared on games that span multiple platforms including PC, Nintendo DS, and GBA. In addition to working with Pixel Art, he is a programmer, musician, and accomplished 3D Artist―with work that has appeared in an exhibit in the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum. Dan owns the game development studio Interstellar Tortoise and has written several indie games.

Wonderfully illustrated, it covers many different aspects of pixel ...

This is a book i wish i had 10 years ago. I know that for myself and many other gamedevs i know, art skills are very difficult to master. Silber teaches pixel art with an exact, technical manner that my computer-esque mind can understand and put into practice. Wonderfully illustrated, it covers many different aspects of pixel art - really just about anything you would need. Characters, backgrounds, animations, color palettes, and software are all discussed in a straightforward way. Having never dealt very much with pixel art in the games I work on, I'm now taking a second look at the form, especially after the great arguments Silber gives in favor of it.

Good, But A Bit Pricey

Great book, with lots of good information, and the author has a good background in Pixel Art. However, the price seems a bit too steep for the size and information this book contains. It is, however, really the only book of it's kind.

I wish the interviews were a bit more in-depth, and not so short, especially since they were artists for some very well known, beautiful games. The book could have also been a lot more hands-on.

A practical guide for pixel art creation

Silber cuts a lot of the fat from other art books by giving practical advice for pixel artists to use. This is a cheat sheet for many of the common problems in pixel art that most books overlook (what tools do I use, how should I approach palettes, how do I blend between pixels, etc). Fundamentals in perspective, color theory and design are detailed in the text as an introduction for further study.

Much of the content is structured to walk the reader through the creation of in-game assets, rather than a single portrait or illustration. For the developer, this book gives insight into how to create an effective pipeline for video game art that is efficient and aesthetically appealing. While the diagrams in the book are not astounding, it provides the tools for analysis to study other artists (Paul Robertson, Joakim Sandberg, etc).

In the end, this is a book every game developer and pixel artist should have in their library. It gives practical, down-to-earth advice for efficient game development.
