Christy Carlyle delivered such a fun, romantic novel that I could not help except to fall in love with this story as well as the characters.

I was first introduced to the author earlier this year and I do not mind declaring that I have been hooked on her novels ever since. There is something extra special about a Carlyle novel that I just cannot find in any other writer and that something is the romance itself. I know that when I select a novel from the author I am going to get a breathtaking, steamy romance and as a reader that is what I want the most from historical-romance.

Getting to the highlights of the story I adored the attraction between both Sebastian and Kitty. The duo tried their darndest not to fall in love with one another, but Sebastian I think proved to be too irresistible. I really enjoyed Sebastian as the hero. He was bold, handsome and a little spiteful in nature. As for Kitty she had a spark about her. She was the ideal match for Sebastian and because of these two individuals the romance just brightened with each page that I turned.

Loved this book!!

This was my first book of Christy Carlyle's and I must say it definitely won't be the last! I loved it! I really become absorbed in the story, and to explain how descriptive Christy was with One Tempting Proposal, I could imagine myself sitting at the table with Kitty's family as her father berates her...I could feel the tension in the air. Understandably, Kitty is apprehensive at love, though she craves it. She's never had it from her father and is unsure whether it exists for her from Anyone. A bit of a challenge for Sebastian, but they join forces in an effort to help Kitty's sister, and discover romance along the way. I really enjoyed a change from the typical plots where the gentleman is in search of a bride to beget an heir-- that's been done a zillion times. I found this story new and refreshing and Christy's style of writing is one that really speaks to me! This is one of those hard to put down books...the kind that makes you stay up late to finish and go to work the next day on only 4 hours of sleep!!

I just wanted to wrap this book around me like a blanket and snuggle in deep. What a delightfully charming story. Sebastian is the perfect man in being thoughtful to other peoples feelings while newly rich. Who could resist that? Kat is a young woman who knows what she doesn't want, trying to find her way out from under her dads rule, to discover what it is that she does want. The movement from POV of these two characters is done flawlessly. I really enjoyed the historic feel without it overwhelming you with too much of the older version of speaking. Fun classic historic romance that I really enjoyed. I was given this story for an honest review and this is mine.

Horses of the Light Review-Excellent...10 stars!

I really must give this book 10+ Stars! I totally loved this book and must say, it's the best book I've read in a while. My cat Smudge is laying here on my desk licking my fingers and he's the best, so he's telling me that this must have been a great book, as it took time away from playing with him.
Really, I'm an older person, and I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very interesting, very well written and very exciting! The book kept me amused and reading almost non-stop. (I had to eat.) I also fell asleep a couple times reading very late night. But not because I was bored.
Thank You for the series,"The Outback Riders", which you've written and are writing right now. I'm presently reading "Horses of the Sun" and awaiting your next book, "Horses of Fire". I can't wait for the book to be out on the market.
I did check out your web site. I was also a Quarter Horse Breeder/Trainer, etc. Many years ago, before I became disabled and NOT from riding horses. I was born with a birth defect and worked around the pain every day. I've found that going to surgeon's is more dangerous than any horse I'd ever worked with. That was when I became disabled. But I do love reading stories and still am around horses as much as I'd like to be, I just can't ride any more. Go figure. My Neurosurgeon is a horse person too, so I'll take his word for it. But what a way to go, eh? Doing what you love the most. Riding. Thank you for your well written books. I've enjoyed them so far and will certainly look for any other which you've written. I just downloaded, " Flame the Fire Horse" and will read that one very soon.
Good luck with your writing and keep up the great work with your horses! They are all very beautiful! One of my favorites was a palamino AQHA stud colt from my Pinto AQHA mare. Bar Line and oh, so beautiful! Brings back many good memories! Thank You so very much!

Delightful

I loved " Horses of the Sun" and was just delighted when " Horses of the Light" became available. Being a life long horse lover and owner myself it was easy to identify with these youngsters. I could not put this book down. I look forward to reading "Horses of the Fire".

I Googled often to more fully appreciate the rich land of Australia and the Outback.

Required, life-altering reading for all performers, students, teachers, parents, employees, bosses. Everyone really. Even horses

What would you say if I told you that there was an essential life skill that could make you a better speaker, help you nail job interviews, get you better dates, improve your performance, and make you a better partner and parent? What if I told you that no one has ever bothered to teach you this skill, mostly because we didn't even know what it was? That secret skill is presence, "the state of feeling connected with our own thoughts, values, abilities, and emotions, so that we can better connect with the thoughts, values, abilities, and emotions of others." And Amy Cuddy's book can teach this state of "self-assured enthusiasm" to you and a whole lot more.

For example, just last month, my professional singer friend Valerie was terrified of her upcoming auditions because of crippling stage fright. Right about that time, I was fortunate to attend a talk by Amy Cuddy on her new book. Valerie couldn't attend, so I gave her an advance copy of "Presence" that Amy had kindly given us. Valerie watched Amy's TED talk, read half of the book, executed the "power pose" (i.e. expansive body postures like the 'Wonder Woman' and the 'Usain Bolt' held for 2min) and "self-affirmation of core values" techniques right before her auditions, and nailed 'em: three auditions, three jobs booked. And it all worked *that* fast.

People -- this is life-changing stuff.

As a therapist and speaking coach, I've been teaching Amy's material to to students and clients for a few years, so I was thrilled to hear that she's putting her knowledge into book form. If there were a central premise to the book, it would be this: "The lesson is clear: focus less on the impression you’re making on others and more on the impression you’re making on yourself. The latter serves the former, a phenomenon that should become clearer and clearer throughout this book." Here are some of the things I like about it:
-- Ample illustration of the concepts with real-life stories of folks from all over the world who have overcome huge challenges using the "Presence" techniques -- all the way from grade-school kids, to people stuck in bad relationships, to Icelandic show horses (really)
-- The author's generosity and vulnerability in sharing of her own stories, e.g her painfully slow recovery from a brain-damaging college car accident and her own struggle with Impostor Syndrome
-- It's a fantastic compendium of the relevant science on how the body affects the mind, all in jargon-free, highly accessible form, from the leading scientists of the day.

Of course, the main reason I read a book is to learn cool new useful stuff. And even though this book is smack-dab in my own field of work, I still learned a ton (took 19 pages of notes!). Here are some tidbits I particularly appreciated:
-- The cortisol-testosterone dual hormone hypothesis: you're most effective when you have high testosterone and low cortisol
-- We usually thing that confidence leads to decisions and thoughts drive behavior. But a surprising amount of the time, it's the other way around: decisions create confidence and behavior creates thoughts.
-- 80% of all fibers from the vagus nerve go from the body to the brain, not the other way around. Body changes mind!
-- The more people use the word "I", the less powerful and sure of themselves they are likely to be.
-- "Ultimately, participants’ speaking rate had an inverse relationship with how powerful they felt. That is, the more slowly they read the sentences, the more powerful, confident, and effective they felt afterward." Speak slowly to feel powerful!
-- Hunched over posture of staring at smartphones ("iPosture") kills both your mood and your productivity.
-- Why new year’s resolutions don’t work
-- Loved the section on self-nudges: little, incremental ways to change our behavior for the better.
-- "The three most important things to understand about the self, particularly as it relates to presence. The self is: 1. Multifaceted, not singular. 2. Expressed and reflected through our thoughts, feelings, values, and behaviors. 3. Dynamic and flexible, not static and rigid."

But wait: there's a bonus to Valerie's story. Now that she's back home for Christmas, Valerie's newfound adoption of more empowering posture is transforming her relationship with her sometimes difficult mother (which I'm sure none of you have, but just in case). Applying the teachings of this book can directly affect your relationships, performances, credibility, work, interviews, impostor syndrome, lie detection abilities, and overall mood. That's some important stuff, and "Presence" offers simple, practical, effective solutions to challenges in those areas of life. That's why I'm telling everyone about this book and buying a stack of 'em to press into the hands of my friends. It's quite possible that you, too, will feel compelled to give your friends the gift of a core skill for success after reading "Presence."

I bought the book based on a segment I saw about the author on my favorite TV show, CBS Sunday Morning. I also saw the author's TED talk and found that interesting. The book I must admit, I found a bit disappointing. It seemed as though 90+% of the book was devoted to substantiating the science behind Ms. Cuddy's work but less than 10% on how to actually apply it. Overall, the book left me with the feeling of, 'is this all there is?'

Elizabeth Closs Traugott is Professor of Linguistics and English at Stanford University. Her previous books include A History of English Syntax (1972), Linguistics for Students of Literature (with Mary L. Pratt, 1980) and Grammaticalization (with Paul J. Hopper, Cambridge, 1993).

Richard B. Dasher is Director of the US-Japan Technology Center, Executive Director of the Center for Integrated Systems and Consulting Associate Professor at the School of Engineering, Stanford University. His previous publications include historical work on Japanese honorifics in Papers in Linguistics, other research in Papers from the 7th International Conference on Historical Linguistics (ICHL), and various scholarly journals.
